IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE NEW UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS EXTENSION ENACTED ON NOVEMBER 6, 2009


A second tier extension enhancement and a third tier extension for North Carolina unemployment insurance benefits has been enacted by Congress and signed into law by President Obama. The US Department of Labor has developed procedures that each state must use in order to begin paying these benefits. NCESC staff is working to implement the procedures as quickly as possible. The current estimate is that it will take six weeks from November 18, 2009 to implement information system and program changes for the release of benefit payments. NCESC will mail notices that include instructions for filing to all unemployment insurance recipients who are potentially eligible for the tier 2 and tier 3 extensions.
