At the time of writing, Blippi’s YouTube channel has over 17.7 million subscribers with 15.5 billion views. He is easily one of the most popular YouTube channels aimed at kids. So, Blippi is not a real person per se and is more of a character that kids love.

And, boy, do the young ones love him… 

He first posted on his YouTube channel on 18 February 2014 and currently has more than 640 videos on this channel. All his shows are translated into French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, Hebrew, and even more languages. His reach is unprecedented for a toddler’s YouTube channel.

Currently, the net worth of Blipi is $75 million and rapidly growing. That’s a serious amount of cheddar for a children’s TV show presenter. As one of the highest-paid YouTubers in the world, Blippi is believed to be earning almost $10 million per year. For someone under 35 who isn’t some kind of music star, that’s a massive annual salary. 

In 2020 alone, Blippi made in the region of $17 million, mostly from his YouTube shows and ad revenues. Although, he does have an impressive real estate portfolio that I will discuss a bit later. This number made him one of the top 10 best-paid YouTubers in 2020. Reportedly, Blippi’s earnings are around $25,000 per day, and is said to get 6,000 new subscribers daily.

How Was Blippi Created?

Steve John created the Blippi concept by observing the activities of his 2-year-old nephew. He saw the kid watching inferior quality kid’s videos on YouTube and had the idea to do something about it. He decided to dress up in super-bright clothing, visit play centers across America, and dance around and make a spectacle of himself. The kids loved his larger-than-life character.

John started by filming and editing his own videos but also wanted to bring an educational edge to the videos. He had the idea of acting and thinking like he believed a child would, so the educational part of his videos was absorbed well by the toddlers. And that’s just what happened. 

How much did Blippi invest to start his channel?

There are no official financial reports on how much it cost Blippi to start up his channel or to get it to an acceptable quality level. He took out a loan from a family member to get things started and essentially invested in himself. The channel enjoyed massive growth in the first two years, which took John by surprise.

Expanding the Blippi brand…

Over two or three years, Blippi began to evolve as his channel was becoming successful. A production team was hired when views first hit a billion, and the videos first started to get translated into Spanish. He expanded business right across the board by creating Blippi Toys and also started offering his video as digital downloads and even DVDs. 

Although his videos are wholesome educational segments for young kids, he did, funnily enough, start to get some complaints from parents. He’s sometimes criticized for being a bit too simplistic, and his tone is repetitive and pretentious. 

There are a bunch of super-repetitive Blippi videos and songs that talk about cars, pizza, and even fire trucks. But what did they expect from videos that are aimed towards 2 to 7-year-old kids? Did Steve John Sell Blippi Channel?

In July 2020, Steve John sold his Blippi franchise to Moonbug Entertainment. Blippi and another popular kid’s show, Cocomelon, were part of the deal that saw Moonbug acquire both channels for around $120 million in a landmark deal for kid’s YouTube channels. 

Aside from those two channels, Moonbug also owns other popular YouTube kid’s channels, Little Angel and Little Baby Blum. Although we are not quite sure how much Steve John made from the Moonbug deal, it’s believed to be in the realm of tens of millions of Dollars. 

In July 2021… 

Moonbug was sold to two former Walt Disney executives for a figure that is believed to be around $3 billion. They went on to create other original kid’s TV shows, that include Blippi Wonders, Digley & Daisy, Playtime with Twinkle, Mia’s Magic Playground, and many more. 

Currently, Steve John still plays the Blippi character, although other people also sometimes play the character. It’s expected that John will stay in the role since Moonbug has no plans to replace him permanently.

YouTubers probably don’t make as much per video as you might think. Many people opt to start a YouTube channel and make some videos, but after a while, they quit because it takes so much time to not just make it big. Let alone even make a profit. 

Furthermore, it’s difficult to gauge how much YouTubers make per video is difficult. That’s because it’s not just about viewing numbers. It’s also about how long your videos are and how many ads you’ve posted in the video.

Generally speaking… 

YouTube videos make between $1.61 and $29.30, with the former for short videos and the latter for long-form videos. But, as stated, it all depends on the length of your videos and ad positioning. For 100,000 views, YouTubers can generate anywhere from $400 to $2,400. The question is similar to how long is a piece of string. The answer is from the end to the middle, times two.

What Video Made Blippi the Most Money?

Blippi’s highest-viewed YouTube video was in 2022 and is called “Blippi Learns About Jungle Animals,” which currently has over 900 million views. It’s believed that this video alone has generated around $7 million in ad revenues. The Spanish version of his channel reportedly makes around $15k daily also, and his posts average around seven million views.

How Did Blippi Make His Fortune?

The vast majority of the Blippi net worth number came from the ad revenues from several years of videos on his YouTube channel and the acquisition by Moonbug Entertainment. However, he did reportedly make a decent stash from investing in the stock market and also via his real estate portfolio.

Although it’s not always easy to obtain the financial details of individuals, I do have a rough estimate of how much Blippi made from stocks and real estate. From all known sources, I estimate that Blippi’s investments are 35% in his real estate portfolio and a further 61% and 4% in stocks and bonds, respectively. Let’s attempt to break that down. 

Did Blippi make wide stock investments?

It might be difficult to gauge how much Steve John made through his stock investments. But it’s believed to be around $15 million. This is private information, so it could be incorrect. But, if you consider that number with the money he made from YouTube videos, the acquisition of Blippi, and his real estate, it seems very close to the mark.

John made close to $1 million from his investment in government bonds alone in 2022. There is no information on the type of bonds he purchased. But that figure would equate to roughly 4% of Steve John’s net worth. However, that percentage is an estimation and not set in stone.

How much is Blippi’s real estate portfolio worth?

Working out the money Blippi makes from his real estate investments and portfolio is easier to calculate than his stock trading habits. He paid $2.8 million for a home in Los Angeles in 2020 that is now worth almost double at $5 million. In 2020, he sold a Las Vegas property for around $700,000. 

He owns a bunch of rental properties in Washington… 

And, although we don’t know how many, some reports say it’s five. The valuation of these properties or similar ones in the same like-for-like area and layout cost around $500,000 each. So, we can surmise that they are worth around $2.5 million combined. We are not sure how much he makes annually from rental returns on these properties, but it’s probably a solid figure. 

From these numbers, we’ve estimated that Blippi’s real estate net worth alone is approximately $8.5 million. These are smart investments that will no doubt appreciate in time and are a great way to combat recession and inflation. 

Does Blippi Have Lavish Purchases?

To be fair, Blippi doesn’t have a reputation as a lavish spender. He leaves that to the Mumble Rappers. He does own a few cars and even a couple of yachts. But, in the grand scheme of things, he isn’t a big spender. 

The rumor is that Blippi owns two luxury yachts, but we are not sure of the models, sizes, or prices. In 2020, there was a video or two on the internet of Blippi enjoying some time on a yacht. If the one in the video is owned by him, its valuation is $350k to $500k. So, we can guesstimate that his two yachts might cost around $1 million combined.

Steve John likes to keep his purchases close to his chest. He is not out there flexing his wealth on Instagram and prefers to live a quieter, more private luxurious lifestyle. And who can blame him for that? In regards to vehicles, he is said to currently own four luxury cars. His most famous and expensive cars are a BMW X8 and a Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
