Do Walmart Sell Fire Sticks? (2023 Guide)

do walmart sell fire sticks

The Amazon Fire Stick (and similar streaming gadgets) is an excellent alternative to cable TV. It looks similar to a traditional flash drive, and by simply inserting it into a USB slot, you can transform your standard TV set into a smart TV.

The Amazon Fire Stick offers the ultimate in viewing convenience, allowing you to stream all your favorite movies, music, news, sport, and TV shows. And all while on the go!

You can find a wide variety of streaming devices at any number of retailers, and Walmart is no exception. But do Do Walmart Sell Fire Sticks? Let’s find out…

Do Walmart Sell Amazon Fire Sticks?

Unfortunately, Amazon Fire Sticks are no longer available at Walmart. This is for sales in-store as well as online.

There is good news, however. Even though Amazon no longer sells Fire Sticks, they do stock a variety of other brands if you are in the market for a device with similar characteristics to the Amazon offering. Examples include NVIDIA, Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast.

Why are Fire Sticks no longer available at Walmart?

The exact reason has never been disclosed; however, it is believed that due to growing rivalry between the two giant retailers, as of 2017, Walmart decided to no longer stock Amazon products such as Fire TVs, Amazon Fire Sticks, or other similar items. This is also the reason why Walmart no longer sells Kindle Readers or Amazon gift cards.

Ultimately, plenty of shops are expanding their online base, and an increase in competition between the two brands gave Walmart a reason to give some constructive thought to its own big move into online selling. It is also said that Walmart may soon be competing directly with Amazon Prime by creating a streaming service of its own.

If not Fire Sticks, which devices are available at Walmart?

Fortunately for fans of Fire Sticks, Walmart offers a plethora of similar streaming gadgets that work well with a variety of devices that are available both in-store and online! For example:

One example of what’s on offer is Google’s Chromecast with Google TV. This is available in three varieties:

  • The Google Smart TV Kit, which retails at $64 (this is a Walmart exclusive offer)
  • Chromecast with Google TV, which retails at $49.98
  • The Third Gen version, which retails at $29.98

What about Roku Devices?

There are also a few different options to choose from if you decide to purchase the Roku streaming device, all of which depend entirely on your streaming and viewing needs. The entry-level stick, called the Roku Express, is $29. The Roku Streaming Stick is $49, while Roku Ultra retails for $60.94. Roku Ultra 2020 will cost you $99 and offers Dolby vision and 4K HDR.

Apple TVs

All models of Apple TV are available to purchase at Walmart. The most cost-effective option is the Apple TV 3rd Generation, which retails at $94.97. The next level is the 4th Generation version, which is $144. The Apple TV 4K 32 GB option is $169, which comes with extra memory and 4K entertainment.

What about Walmart’s own streaming service?

By now, you may be wondering if Walmart perhaps has a streaming service of its own. Here’s the answer. In 2010, Walmart bought a free streaming service called Vudu at a cost of $100 million. The reason for this was to lessen the effect that the decline of DVDs was having on the market.

While there are countless films and TV shows to stream for free on Vudu, consumers could also hire titles on a pay-as-you-go basis. However, Vudu’s initial function was to release DVDs in digital format, but the online streaming market had become saturated, and Walmart sold it.

Why was Vudu sold?

Why was Vudu sold?

Apart from a flooded online streaming market, additional competition from rival streaming services like Amazon Prime and Netflix most likely caused Walmart to rethink its strategy and place emphasis on new and advanced equipment in the delivery and automotive fields. Vudu was sold for an undisclosed sum in 2020 to a movie ticketing corporation called Fandango.

Can Vudu be streamed on Roku devices?

Yes, Vudu can be streamed for free on Roku. Choose from a huge selection of movie titles, from latest releases to golden oldies, with no monthly subscription fee. However, keep in mind that each movie will need to be paid for separately because Vudu works on a pay-as-you-go basis.

The great thing is that because the streaming platforms (unlike Netflix) do not have a six-month waiting period, with Vudu, you have immediate access to new releases and won’t have to wait to see that highly anticipated new thriller!

Do Walmart Sell Fire Sticks? – Final Thoughts

Due to ever-changing consumer behavior and growing competition between Walmart and Amazon, you will not be able to purchase Amazon Fire Sticks in a Walmart store. More and more consumers are choosing to shop online and rely on Amazon as a trusted online name, forcing well-known brick-and-mortar brands such as Walmart to choose their future possibilities carefully.

But while Walmart no longer carries Amazon items, you can still choose from a variety of different streaming services and devices such as Roku, Google, and Apple, all of which are excellent alternatives at competitive prices. Whatever your budget and streaming needs are, you are sure to find the perfect fit at your nearest Walmart.

Happy streaming!
