Throughout the country, most people have tremendous respect for those who have served in the military and been to war. These people risked their lives for their country and spent vast amounts of time away from family and loved ones.
To show their appreciation and thanks, lots of companies offer military discounts. This means that they receive money off products and services. It’s essentially an incentive to show their token of respect for those who put their lives in danger to protect the country.
Walmart loves a bargain!
Walmart is one of the largest corporations in the world. They offer goods at reasonable prices and often have big discounts during special occasions and various promotions throughout the year. They jump on Black Friday deals, offer veterans day sales, and pride themselves on being a store with excellent prices.
But Does Walmart Offer Military and Veteran Discount? And if so, to what extent? Let’s take a look at what an army officer or veteran can expect as I answer the question…
Does Walmart Offer Military and Veteran Discount?
Unfortunately, military personnel or veterans won’t receive any discounts from Walmart. This includes the veteran’s day sale, which might raise some eyebrows. Why do veterans not get deals on a sale in their name, one might ask?
However, the sale stretches to all its customers far and wide, and that can be veterans, families of veterans, and the general public. However, Walmart did introduce the Welcome Home Commitment in 2013. This was a promise to hire 250,000 American veterans by 2020. Did Walmart stick to its word? They did!
Going above and beyond!
They surpassed 265,000 employed veterans by 2020. Overall they have provided 320,000 jobs for veterans within the company and provide economic, healthcare, and community support for veterans and active serving members.
So, let’s take a look at the positive things Walmart has done for active military members and veterans.
Is There Any Way For Veterans To Get Discounts At Walmart?
Unfortunately not, however, veterans can jump on discounts and promotions that every other person can. Thankfully Walmart prides itself on being a value store which means they do try to offer competitively low prices.
There are often sales daily in Walmart, along with promotions and discounted items. People can access the deals in-store and online. Remember, though, that the sales and items will depend on the store in your area and the available stock at that time. If you are a Walmart staff member, you can receive 10% off on your purchases with your discount card.
What Does Walmart Do For Veterans?
Walmart has never introduced or offered any type of military or veterans discount. They do, however, offer a lot to those who have served in the military and their families.
Walmart introduced its Veteran’s Welcome Home Commitment. Veteran unemployment was at an all-time high, so Walmart decided this was an excellent incentive to help them get back into the world of employment and gain experience and skills in a different work setting.
In 2018 Walmart realized it needed to broaden its employment opportunities for military families. Walmart introduced the Military Spouses Career Connection. It has employed over 31,000 people through this incentive and continues to offer favor hiring preferences to those from a military background or spouse.
Since 2011, Walmart claims to have invested over $40 million in programs promoting job training, education, and creative public/private community-based initiatives.
