Easy Certifications for your Resume

Although a degree or relevant experience will always be your best bet for landing a job, there are many reasons why it may not be enough.

Often, the field of study is ever-changing, and your degree might become somewhat outdated over time. Or, you have worked in the same position for some time, and new employers would prefer someone that has multiple skillsets.

There is also the case that many don’t have the opportunity to enroll in university, they are unsure of what they want to study, or they choose not to work their way up the ladder without a tertiary qualification. For these reasons, an easy, low-cost certification can pad up your resume to give you a bit of a boost above other candidates.

Easy Certifications For Your Resume – Overview

Easy Certifications

Most businesses, large or small, will have marketing, management, human resources, bookkeeping, logistics, safety, and IT needs. As such, a certification for any of these will be beneficial, depending on your chosen profession.

Marketing and Sales

For marketing-related career paths, you can get multiple certifications that will come in handy. The field is so diverse that multiple staff members are needed to cover all of the facets thereof. However, if you can perform multiple tasks, it will definitely make you more desirable. Here are some easy certifications you can get to pad your resume:

  • Google ads and other digital marketing
  • Market research
  • Product management and marketing
  • Copy-writing
  • Video-editing
  • Graphic design (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Email marketing
  • Sales and relationship management
  • Customer service
  • Business-to-business selling

Management and Human Resources

Although these two areas are respectively unique, there is some overlap. You will have to work with people, resolve conflict, manage productivity and take disciplinary action. For these fields, I recommend:

  • Leadership and mentoring
  • Business ethics
  • Time management and productivity
  • Teambuilding
  • Conflict resolution
  • Labor law and compliance
  • Counseling and support
  • Organizational communications
  • Equality, diversity, and inclusion

Bookkeeping and Logistics

Bookkeeping

These fields pertain to the financial side of the business. Whenever a stock is bought and sold, it will have to be recorded and tracked, and there is money moving in and out of the business.

Without having to be a full-time accountant, your bookkeeping skills can greatly assist the accountant when they are balancing the books for audits. When you work in logistics as a buyer or you are in charge of products moving between branches, your negotiations and planning can save the business money.

For these fields, I recommend:

  • Supply chain management
  • Transportation and shipping
  • Warehouse management
  • Bookkeeping
  • Excel, Pastel, and QuickBooks applications

Safety

Workplace safety risk management is crucial to any business that does not want to get sued by employees or customers for endangerment or injury. For this, you could try one of the following certifications:

  • OHSA safety training
  • Fire safety and prevention planning
  • Food safety training
  • Risk assessment
  • Emergency life support
  • First aid and CPR
  • Chemical safety
  • Forklift and excavation vehicle licenses

IT

Information technology is a rapidly evolving field with new developments every day. It is important to keep company data secure and to keep up to speed with new software applications. Being able to develop software to provide solutions that your company does not need external licensing for is a huge plus. You can keep up to date with some of the following certificates:

  • Cyber security
  • Various programming languages for computer and cellphone applications
  • Desk support and troubleshooting
  • Server administration
  • Web development
  • Hardware asset management
  • Data recovery and backup systems for long term storage

How To Get Certified

All of these courses are relatively easy to complete and are offered by online instruction websites such as Udemy.com. Alternatively, you can seek out short courses presented by community colleges and trained professionals offering workshops.

Some of the courses are also licensable, depending on the state, and licensing bodies will often offer a course of their own to complete before an exam.

Easy Certifications For Your Resume – Final Thoughts

It needs to be stated that many courses are not always recognized as legitimate qualifications and that they will not be held in the same regard as a degree that covered the course. This is more so the case if licensing is required.

However, if a license itself to perform the task is not required, many employers will be satisfied with seeing your ability to perform the task, after seeing the certification noted on your resume.

All the very best in getting Certified for your Resume!
