Why Work Remotely?
Working remotely doesn’t appeal to everyone. Some people enjoy the buzz of the office and catching up with co-workers. Others find productivity from working in their own environment and enjoy missing out on the daily commute and bumping into their colleagues.
Working remotely has many benefits not only for employers but employees too. So, hers are some of them…
Benefits Of Working Remotely
Work-life Balance
Working remotely has its perks. Many remote jobs also come with flexible hours, allowing employees to start and stop their days whenever they like, as long as their work is completed and produces positive results. When it comes to adhering to the needs of your personal life, having control over your work schedule can be beneficial.
With a flexible schedule, you can take your kids to school, perhaps do the morning dog walk on your (meant to be) commute, or even fit in a morning exercise class!
Commute
Missing the daily commute is a definite bonus of working from home. In the United States, the average one-way commute time is 27.1 minutes – so that nearly an hour each day spent traveling to and from work, and it adds up quickly.
According to the Auto Insurance Center, commuters spend around 100 hours traveling and 41 hours trapped in traffic each year. Some “extreme” commuters have travel times of 90 minutes or longer each way. A 30-minute commute is proven to have increased a person’s stress and anxiety levels.
Location Independence
Another advantage is having access to a broader selection of career options that aren’t limited by geography. This is especially useful for job seekers in rural areas and small towns where there may be a limited number of local openings.
This is also beneficial for people who strive to live a nomadic lifestyle and avoid the high rent costs in their home city. It is also great for employees who work in fields such as technology which are often expected to relocate to bigger cities with higher rent and mortgage fees.
Working from home allows you to avoid these life changes.
Money-Saving
People who work from home can save roughly $4000 per year, according to a recent study. Employees typically spend money on gas, parking fees, transportation, eating out, and new work clothes. Working remotely can hugely cut these costs or even eliminate them!
Savings don’t only benefit the employee but also the employer. According to Global Workplace Analytics, every person who works from home at least part of the time saves a typical employer roughly $11,000 per year. This is massive as, after all, every business wants to cut their spending and make more money.
The Benefits
A number of perks come with working for the government, such as job security, employee benefits, promotion, and relocation options. Remote work is now an incoming factor that has become even more apparent post-pandemic, which caused a change in employee and company priorities.
What are the benefits of working for a government agency?
- Health Insurance
- Flexible Spending Accounts
- Basic Benefit Plan
- Thrift Savings Plan
- Social Security
- Life Insurance
- Employee Assistance Programs
- Child and Dependent Care
These are some examples, although benefits may vary depending on the department and sector you work for.
