What Is Home Depot?

Why Do Companies Have Dress Codes?

Most companies have strict clothing regulations to promote a certain image, to provide uniformity between employees, and for safety reasons. The way you dress can also affect the way you feel and act. For example, if you are required to wear a uniform, you may feel more like a team member and less individualistic.

It also allows customers or clients to easily identify employees.

Home Depot’s History with Dress Code

The store has always had a dress code, even from when it first opened its doors in 1978. The regulations have been updated over the years, but the basic principles have remained the same. The current regulations are designed to promote a safe and professional work environment. It is also important to note that they may vary slightly depending on the store location.

Home Depot Orientation Dress Code

First things first, you have to attend an orientation before you start your job. The dress code for the orientation is very casual and comfortable because you will be sitting for most of it. You can wear jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers. Just make sure you avoid anything too loose or too tight. You want to be comfortable because you will be sitting for a long time.

Home Depot Work Dress Code

Now let us move on to the Home Depot work dress code. This is slightly more lenient than other places of work, but there are still some guidelines you need to follow.

Firstly, you should note there is no set uniform at Home Depot. However, you will need to wear an apron when you are working. The apron is to protect your clothes from getting dirty or damaged. The orange aprons are a signature of the store and are recognized worldwide.

And what goes under the apron?

But what to wear underneath your apron? Well, you are required to wear clothes! But seriously, you should wear clothes that are comfortable, not too baggy or restrictive, and you want to make sure your clothes are clean and presentable.

Some examples of what to wear are:

  • Jeans
  • Pants
  • Shirts
  • T-shirts
  • Sweaters

There are also some things that you should not wear to work at Home Depot. These include:

  • Clothes with holes or rips: pretty self-explanatory; you just do not want to look unprofessional.
  • Offensive clothing: this includes anything that is racist, sexist, or has profanity on it.
  • Slogan t-shirts: once again, you want to avoid anything offensive, but you also want to avoid anything that could potentially start a political debate. The last thing you want is to get into an argument with a co-worker or customer about something on your shirt.
  • Branded clothing: the only brand on clothing should be the store you are working in.
  • Clothes that are too loose or too tight: you want to be comfortable, but you also do not want your clothes to be a safety hazard. Baggy clothes can get caught on things, and too tight clothes can restrict your movement.
  • Clothes that are stained or dirty: obviously, you want to look neat and professional.
  • Vest tops: Shoulders need to be covered during your shift.
  • Short shorts: any trousers or shorts must be no shorter than 3″ above the knee.
  • Flip flops: No open-toed shoes can be worn in the store for safety reasons.

Can I Decorate My Home Depot Apron?

Can I Decorate My Home Depot Apron?

Now that we know what to wear, let’s discuss how you can personalize your apron. You are allowed to decorate your apron as long as it does not violate the dress code policy. This means no offensive designs or logos. Other than that, have fun and be creative!

Many employees take advantage of this policy and use it as an opportunity to show their personality. Some people sew patches onto their aprons, while others use paint or sharpie markers. If you are feeling really ambitious, you can even embroider your apron.

Can I have Piercings or Tattoos?

Body piercings and tattoos are allowed as long as they are not offensive. This means no profanity, racist, or sexist designs. Again, you want to remember that you are representing the company. If for some reason, you decided to get an offensive tattoo, it is best to cover it up while you are at work.

Can I Wear a Hat?

Hats are allowed as long as they are not offensive and they fit the dress code policy. This means no baseball caps, fedoras, or beanies. You can wear a Home Depot hat or a plain, solid-colored hat.

Are there Rules on Hair?

Yes, there are rules on hair, in that it should be clean and well-groomed, but other than this, there are not many restrictions. You should avoid any hairstyles that are considered to be extreme, but if you are unsure, you should check with your line manager, and they will let you know what is and is not acceptable for that particular store.

Can you wear Acrylic Nails?

Can you wear Acrylic Nails

Technically yes, but it is not recommended. This is because acrylic nails can be a safety hazard. They can get caught on things or break easily, which could lead to injury. If you do decide to wear them, make sure they are not too long and that they are well-maintained.

What about Religious Items?

You are allowed to wear religious items as long as they do not violate the policy. Headscarves, turbans, and yarmulkes are all allowed. Cross necklaces and other religious jewelry are also allowed.
