If you love keeping up with the latest fashion, then Forever 21 is the shop for you! Not only does it carry all the current trends, but it’s reasonably priced as well. So, as a fashion lover looking for a job, it’s the perfect place to start.
But it’s not for everyone. Like all brands, Forever 21 has some limitations on who can work there. And one of those limitations is based on age.
So, Let’s find out…
How Old Do You Have To Be To Work at Forever 21?
We’ll get straight to the point. Staff at Forever 21 should be no younger than 18 years old.
There’s more than one answer here. For a start, Forever 21 prefers their employees to have a high school diploma or equivalent. If you’re under 18, then it’s pretty unlikely that you’ve got one yet.
Most positions also require a bit of experience. And some roles request a minimum of six months in a similar job. There’s a better chance of an 18-year-old fulfilling those requirements than a 16-year-old.
State the facts…
But the main reason is because of state labor laws. You might not know this, but the minimum age for getting a job is different in every state. That makes it difficult for these big companies who operate everywhere to avoid breaking the rules.
It’s easier for them to have a blanket ban on anyone under 18 working for them. That ensures that both they and the employee are protected. It may not seem fair, but it’s better than the potential consequences of getting it wrong.
Want to check the rules in your state?
Just go to the Department of Labor website. It has everything you need to check the rules in your area. Simply search for where you live, and you’ll get all the information in seconds.
What Kind of Jobs Are Available at Forever 21?
You’re over 18 and want to go ahead with applying for a job at Forever 21. But what can you do there?
This sounds like a pretty important position! Don’t worry, though; it’s not as serious as it sounds. A brand ambassador is just a fancy way of saying, store associate.
This is a customer-facing role. It requires assisting clients with finding the best product and then cashing them out. You’ll also deal with stock replenishment, working on the fitting room, and keeping the shop floor ship-shape.
What skills do you need?
A candidate for this job should be a people person. You should be warm and friendly and have excellent communication skills. You also need to be able to keep a level head, as you’ll be handling customer complaints from time to time.
As you’ll be working on a POS, cash-handling experience is desirable. It helps if you have at least six months of previous retail experience, too. A flexible schedule is preferred as well, as employees will need to work evenings, weekends, and during holidays.
Visual Merchandising Associate
Got a great sense of style and a good eye for color? Don’t want to spend all your time talking to customers? This could be the best role for you.
This job is also about making the product look great. You organize the floor plan and execute it flawlessly. You appealingly display the clothing and are responsible for maintaining those displays throughout the day.
Passion for fashion…
This would suit an art lover who knows how to mix and match clothes. You need to be pretty organized, too, as this job requires a lot of planning. You should have a tidy mind and a great eye for detail. While this job has less customer interaction than a brand ambassador, you will still have to talk to people sometimes!
Merchandising associates are all trained to use the POS, and you will have to be a cashier on occasion. Plus, customers will likely ask you for help when you’re arranging the shop floor, so you have to be comfortable with talking to them.
If you want to avoid those customers, then why not try for a job in maintenance? In this position, you can work alone and keep a low profile. It’s an introvert’s dream!
Maintenance associates take care of the store. They’re responsible for cleaning windows, floors, and all the furniture in the store. Most of this gets done before the store opens, but you’ll be expected to maintain it during opening hours.
And if anything breaks, then you’ll be the one fixing it! No big jobs, just light repairs such as changing lightbulbs or tightening screws. You’ll be taking care of the restrooms, too, as well as emptying trash cans.
A maintenance associate has to be methodical and enjoy following procedures. They should like things to be clean and notice when something is out of place. And it should go without saying that they shouldn’t be afraid to get their hands dirty!

Then head straight over to the Forever 21 website to apply. Here, you’ll find a comprehensive list of every position available. Simply search by area or job title to take the first step in your new career.
How Much Does Forever 21 Pay Its Employees?
That’s why you’re doing this, right? To get hold of some of that cold, hard cash. Well, your rate of pay will depend on a few different things.
Most states have their own minimum wage. Some haven’t set one, and therefore use the federal minimum wage of just over $7.00 per hour. Forever 21 has to abide by state laws, so your wage will vary depending on where you live.
Want to find out more?
Check out the Department of Labor website. It’ll tell you everything you need about the minimum wage in your area. You can find out what it was in previous years as well and see how much it has (or hasn’t) risen.
- Brand ambassadors usually get around $9 or $10 per hour. It could be as low as $8, though. But if you’ve got plenty of experience, then they may offer as much as $13 per hour!
- Visual merchandising associates get a similar rate of pay. You can expect anything between $8-$13 per hour. Again, it’ll change based on your previous experience.
- Maintenance associates get a little more dough. The average is about $12 per hour, but it can go up to $16! Don’t expect that in your first few months there, though; you’re more likely to start on around $10 per hour.
Are There Any Employee Benefits For Working At Forever 21?
Of course! And they’re not too shabby, either. Forever 21 does a decent job of taking care of its staff. There’s an excellent insurance package covering life, health, dental, and vision. There’s a pension plan, too, and a company-matched 401K. Plus, fairly generous paid vacation time as well as sick days and holidays.
Although, these benefits are only for full-time employees. Part-timers have to take care of themselves. Oh well. You’ll just have to console yourself with the merchandise, cell phone, and Dell product discount, won’t you?
Can You Work At Forever 21 With No Experience?
Technically, yes. But it’s unlikely. Generally speaking, hiring managers like employees to have done the job before.
Why Is That?
Forever 21 is a popular store. It can get extremely busy, especially on weekends. They don’t want to have to spend time training you on basic tasks when there’s a lot of work to be done.
And for some jobs, like a visual merchandising associate, they like you to have done it for a long time. You need a minimum of one year’s experience for this role. And for most others, you need at least six months in a similar position.
