Hunters Creek Village

Hunters Creek Village is an idyllic community located minutes away from the city. Boasting over 100 subdivisions, 5,000 residents, and some of the best schools in the region, this neighborhood offers its inhabitants a luxurious and tranquil lifestyle.

Perfect for quiet family life…

From expansive homes complete with exquisite architecture to hiking trails and biking paths, Hunters Creek Village offers something for everyone.

Even better, its low crime rate renders it an extremely safe environment to raise a family. With property crimes comprising most of the local crime in the area, the police and fire departments are ever-present. Leading to a crime rate that remains 75% below the state average.

Thus, Hunters Creek Village is one of the safest places to live close to downtown.

Midtown

This is the perfect neighborhood for those seeking a safe and active lifestyle. Located in the heart of Houston, you’ll find a bustling community just minutes away from downtown, the Museum District, and some of Houston’s best cultural venues.

With over 140 local restaurants, shops, and coffee bars that are all within walking distance, as well as easy access to parks and green spaces, it’s no wonder that Midtown is such a popular spot. In terms of safety, it really stands out from many – with an impressive 60% lower crime rate than other parts of the city.

Theft and burglary cases account for most crimes here…

But if you value your time and safety while looking for an urban oasis in one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the city, then Midtown should be at the top of your list to consider.

Spring Branch North

Spring Branch North is an inviting and safe neighborhood for families and retired couples looking for a peaceful home. Home buyers can stretch their money in an area with an average housing cost of $334,613. While renters can find a place to stay with an average of $850 a month.

Alongside this economically accessible residence (in comparison to nearby districts), where rent averages out at $1,182 per month and the average house cost is $389,000 – comes low crime levels and serenity.

This creates an enchanting, homely community that surpasses competitors when it comes to providing a safe yet enjoyable environment to reside in.

Galena Park

Positioned along the Buffalo Bayou and only a 16-minute drive away from downtown Houston, Galena Park is an ideal location for those seeking out a safe and easily walkable neighborhood near the riverfront.

The area has been gaining notoriety in recent years, thanks to its convenient proximity to the Museum District and Theater District. Offering plenty of museums and performance art venues to explore.

Maintaining the culture is a priority for residents…

With these attractions drawing in local musicians, artists, writers, and history buffs alike, Galena Park has developed quite a vibrant cultural environment. Making it all the safer as overall crime in this area is 45% lower than Texas’ average, with most incidents involving theft or burglary.

Without a doubt, this is quickly becoming one of Houston’s safest neighborhoods.

West University Place

West University Place is a highly desirable neighborhood for those who want to live close to the conveniences of downtown Houston. Although close to the city, it still offers a relaxed, small-town atmosphere due to the number of local businesses that dot the streets.

There’s plenty to do in this dynamic district.

But it’s not without its issues…

Property crimes such as identity theft and vehicle burglaries are still occasional problems.

However, increased efforts by law enforcement and community watch organizations have helped drastically reduce crime rates in the area. West University Place now maintains an overall rate that is 46% lower than the average for the entire state of Texas.

With its convenient location and improved safety record, West University Place remains a wonderful choice for young students and professionals looking for a spirited place to call home.

Kingwood

Kingwood, a master-planned community in Houston, is attractive for nature lovers seeking a peaceful and safe living environment. The city has taken proactive measures to preserve its forest state. Many existing structures have been limited, and residents are comfortable taking evening walks without fear of being targeted.

Additionally, the area consistently records 35% lower crime than the Houston average. Property crimes like theft and burglary can occur from time to time, but violent criminal activity is much rarer.

Fresh air and lush surroundings…

As for accommodation costs, prospective renters or buyers can expect an average house price of $304,000 and an average rent of $936. That said, Kingwood’s appeal lies in its beauty. Providing fresh air and lush surroundings that offer a break from the hustle and bustle of big city life.

Downtown Houston

Downtown Houston is a great place to explore and experience all sorts of activities while having the peace of mind that you’re in one of the city’s safest neighborhoods.

Surprised?

That’s right. The crime levels in this area are only slightly higher than in most other parts of the city, and the vibrant district stands out for its eateries, entertainment spots, and historical museums. Providing the perfect combination for a thrilling visit.

Additionally, the bustling streets give off an air of safety and security thanks to their lively, confident atmosphere, where people are almost always out enjoying everything Downtown has to offer.

This neighborhood definitely deserves its reputation as one of the safest parts of Houston.

Friendswood

An appealing locality located outside the city limits of Texas, Friendswood is home to a well-educated and successful population.

It has cultivated a welcoming atmosphere through its low crime rate, which is 75% lower than the average in Texas. This can mainly be attributed to Friendswood’s friendly police force presence as well as its sense of solidarity and support among neighbors. Something that locals often refer to as the ‘Friendswood Bubble.’

Friendswood

And these aren’t just words…

During Hurricane Harvey, this small town showed its spirit of resilience, camaraderie, and determination as everyone came together to help one another during difficult times.

The cost of living in this area is not particularly high. An average home costs around $418,568, while the average monthly rent is only $1,393.

Moreover, Friendswood has an impressively low violent crime rate, which stands at 88 per 100,000 people, and an even lower property crime rate at 574 per 100,000 people.

Bellaire

Next on my rundown of the Safest Neighborhoods in Houston, I have Bellaire, which is located in the greater Houston area, and is known as one of its safest communities. With low violent and property crime rates, residents need not be concerned when they take a stroll around their neighborhood or make late-night trips to local convenience stores.

There’s a price for this, though…

On average, it costs around $1 million USD to buy a home here, while the average rent is $1,236 USD. Both are likely because of the safe atmosphere and quality of life. The zip codes for this area are 77401 and 77402. So if safety is your top priority when looking for a place to call home, Bellaire is an ideal option.

This brings me to the end of my list.

But besides choosing the safest neighborhood in Housten, there are, of course, other measures one should always take to safeguard your family. No matter where you are. So, let’s talk a little about…

Keeping Your Home Safe

Home security is a crucial factor in keeping your family and belongings safe. From installing quality locks on doors and windows to employing alarms and surveillance systems, there are several steps that can be taken to protect your home.

High-quality locks

These are essential measures to safeguard your property. Deadbolts are the most secure option. Since they require a key on both sides of the door or window in order for them to be opened. When investing in strong locks, it’s also beneficial to choose products with anti-drill protection, so burglars can’t try to bypass the locking system with a drill.

High-quality locks

Home security systems

Another one of the best ways to protect your home and family is by investing in a good home security system. Not only do they provide 24/7 surveillance to help ward off any potential intruders, but they can also alert you if something suspicious is happening. Giving you plenty of time to call the authorities.

In addition, consider installing security cameras, motion sensors, and alarm systems for added protection.

Keep doors and windows secure

This includes making sure all entry points are locked when you leave the house. When you are home, you can keep your doors closed and locked, as this provides an extra layer of security.

Safes

Invest in a safe to store your valuable items, such as documents, jewelry, and other items of importance. You can also install a hidden safe in your home to make sure that any important items are not within easy reach of burglars.

Maintain your yard and home exterior

Trim your hedges and bushes, as these can provide potential hiding spots for intruders. Ensure that your driveway is well-lit, and consider installing an automated gate for added security.

Don’t advertise your absence

When you go away on vacation, try to avoid publicizing your absence on social media. Or informing anyone who isn’t a close friend or family member.

Consider setting up automatic timers on your lights or enlisting a trusted neighbor to check in on your home while you’re away.

Get to know your neighbors

Consider joining a neighborhood watch program. Knowing your neighbors and being aware of what’s going on in your area can help drive away potential criminals and make it easier to identify any suspicious activity.

Finally, keep in mind that multiple layers of protection are typically necessary, as no single action can ensure full security.
